It was a beautiful day - the sun was high in the sky, casting it's warm, bright rays all over the once-moat, now-garden, bringing the bright, beautiful vivid colors of the flowers to their full potential. It was a rather enchanting scene, even for one who was as apt to not caring as the brown-haired, blue eyed Dexter Morgan. however, just because he didn't have emotions or feelings didn't mean that dearly darkening Dexter didn't appreciate art. In fact, he felt art was one of the few tru things in the world, in the hell hole that had been declared 'habitable' by humans one day, and ever since, that whole race had been making a mess and destroying everything in their path. Except for artists and writers. They created works. They created beauty.

On this particularly beautiful day, Dexter was armed with a plain, Canon Powershot camera, several grades below a decent camera, such as a SLR, which he regretted. The Powershot was okay, but he wanted, no, NEEDED, a SLR. He made a mental note to save up and buy himself one as his birthday present to himself. He would even feign surprise, and maybe make a card saying it was from a secret admirer. It would be entertaining. Darkly devious Dexter wondered how Hannibal would react - would he be angry? Would he hunt down the fictional Normie who had 'given' Dexter the camera? Or would the unpredictable monster inside Hannibal let it slide?

Dexter growled quietly as he remembered again what kind of people Hannibal killed here - just normal students, people who got too close to the truth. It was horrid, really. Not that Hannibal did much but eat the people after Jay or Freddy killed them, but none the less, Dexter hated it. Harry's Code. Hannibal fit Harry's Code to the T. He killed innocents, killed without a thought process. People were afraid of him, because something primal inside them knew that he was a monster, a murderer. Well, the smart people, anyway. Girls were drawn to his German charm.

Dexter was much better at blending in. Not many people acknowledged him as an Elite, which wasn't a bad thing. It meant that Dexter had an easier time in group projects, though part of Dexter always knew that if he worked on his own, he could do the projects a hundred times better than a group would. Too many cooks spoiled the broth.

The Dark Passenger was chuckling in his ear, whispering it's dark desires to the Teen Killer; The Passenger wanted to kill. Dexter admitted quietly that he hadn't killed anything in a long time - he would have to talk to the Headmistress later and ask her permission, ask her to release a wolf or something into the forest and let him kill it, let him hunt it.

A butterfly had landed on the black rose bush in front of Dexter. Not that the roses were really black - they were actually a deep, near-black red. They were absolutely stunning, and the glass-winged butterfly that had landed on it made an interesting contrast with the black-looking flowers. Life and death, sorrow and hope, light and darkness. That butterfly and that rose could stand for so many things - two lovers in a relationship was another comparison that flitted across deviously dreaming Dexter's mind.

Better yet, I'm the rose and should some poor unfortunate creature find me suitable enough to date, they'd be that butterfly. Dexter stopped moving and crouched down on the ground, lining up his shot for the photograph. The Dark Passenger was not amused by this little... distraction of Dexter's. the only art that the Passenger was interested in was the art of killing.

A twig snapped behind him, startling the butterfly off it's leaf, the picture Dexter had been lining up, ruined. Dexter whirled around, looking with a menacing glare in the direction of the snapped twig. How dare someone ruin his photograph, his art, his attempt to remake part of the world that the meager humans had destroyed. Dexter's face softened when he saw who it was.

"Oh - Zodiac," Dexter faked a smile. "Nice to see you. What brings you out here?"

Three smokes within a matter of hours. That must be a personal record. However, Zodiac wasn’t exactly proud of his feat. Imagine how much money he had thrown away just to soothe his nerves. It sickened him, in all truth. He didn’t have much to part with in the first place, and the majority of his weekly budget was spent on cigarettes. Since he had experienced being broke first hand, Zodiac wasn’t exactly thrilled to risk spending more than he needed.

This was basically the gist of Zodo’s thoughts as he wandered the school grounds, smoke in hand. Frankly, he didn’t know why he sought the garden in particular. Perhaps he only needed something new to look at. Maybe it was simply because he had no where better to go. Who knows, really. All he knew was that when he looked up, a flood of colour obscured his vision.

Zodiac himself was a bit surprised to find himself here, but then again, didn’t give it much of his concern. His attention was now drawn to the puncture wound located on his shoulder. Blood had left a reddish circle on his shirt, but his darkened hoodie seemed a bit more reliable when it came to stains and the blood was a bit less of a horrid eye sore. This didn’t matter to him, though. Blood or no blood, it was still a perfectly decent shirt and sweater. The questions it would bring was unavoidable, though, which is what he was worried about. Hell, he’ll just say he stabbed himself and see how they react. That should amuse him.

The sudden snapping of a twig jolted him from his thoughts. “Ah, great, what the hell did I just step in?” Zodiac looked toward the ground beneath him and his question was immediately answered, seeing his foot having accidentally collided with a bush of some sort. He breathed a sigh as he shook the branches so as to release their hold, but ceased the action when he heard another’s voice.

As Zodo looked up, he found himself staring at Dexter. He hadn’t even realized Dexter was there until a few seconds ago, and the voice had caught him off guard.

To answer his question, Zodiac gestured toward his cigarette, giving a slight, perhaps even sheepish smile. “Bad habit of mine,” he said, giving the usual response as his gaze strayed elsewhere.

Dexter chuckled coldly, trying to hide the fact that he absolutely, no strings attached, hated the habit of smoking. Why one would wish to destroy their lungs, to destroy their chance at life, to have flaky, crusty ash-black lungs was beyond him. It ruined one's fingernails and teeth as well. As could be proven by both the sociopath's teeth and nails, he had never smoked a day in his life. His only addiction? Killing people who killed innocents for fun. Like Hannibal. Dexter still had to find a way to get away from Hannibal and his Elites.

Dexter frowned slightly, lost in his thoughts again, before fully hearing Zodiac's comment about it being a bad habit. "Bad habits can be fixed you know." Dexter said with a slight shrug, putting his camera strap around his neck and letting the $700 piece of technology hand around his neck.

Dexter's mind wandered back to that Serial Killers book - it had mentioned a killer who called himself 'Zodiac'. One of the most famous Serial Killers of all time, killing supposedly unlinked victims at random. Seven confirmed victims.

David Faraday - linked to drug dealers. Betty Lou Jensen was a hapless victim, as she witnessed the murder. A necessary kill.

Darlene Elizabeth Ferrin and Mike Renault Mageau. Darlene was suspected of cheating on her husband with Mike. A bit sketchy, and not exactly definite, but still worth the kill.

Cecelia Ann Shepard and Bryan Calvin Hartnell - Probably experiments. The police reports were vague and sketchy as to what these two had been before they were killed. Or rather, the reports he had access to were sketchy. The loose ends were not tied up, as Hartnell had survived. At least he couldn't identify his attacker.

Paul Lee Stine - What cab driver hadn't done something to deserve death? Dexter had read the Bone Collector one too many times.

Personally, though the claim of the killer had been he killed by their Zodiac signs, Dexter saw underlying reasons, much like his own. It was amazing how alike the teen saw himself with one of the most renown serial killers in history. Dexter looked away from Zodiac.

"You're an Elite, too, aren't you? to only know yourself as Zodiac can not be a coincidence, can it? I am an Elite as well, I think. Technically." Dexter asked quietly. He hadn't talked to Hannibal about the others much - it just seemed to cause a headache for the self-proclaimed leader of the Elites. Zodiac, if he followed Hannibal, would he start killing innocent people? Would he stray from being a Serial Killers with morals? Stray from being a polite wolf in sheep's clothing? Dexter feared it.

"... What do you think of Hannibal?" The question was ambiguously enough, innocent enough. "I mean, do you believe in what he does, or no? Do you believe in the death of innocents, in the death of the Normies, to farther yourself along in life?" Dexter looked back at Zodiac out of the corner of his eye. he hoped Zodiac wouldn't think him too odd.

Zodiac rose a brow because of Dexter’s reaction. He had laughed, but Zodo had a feeling it wasn’t genuine. It didn’t surprise him though, and his expression soon regained its previous appearance and he gave the slightest of smiles. Zodo didn’t know why people cared of his smoking. It was his own decision, and yes, he did have reasons for it, and he’d be happy to tell them if someone asked. No one had yet to bother, though, so he sometimes wondered why they concerned themselves with him when they didn't even know why.

Zodiac’s eyes had drifted from Dexter to the cigarette in which he held in his grasp. Bad habits can be fixed, Dexter had said. Zodiac considered this at the very least, but knew it wouldn’t be happening. Addictions couldn’t be easily fixed, Zodo knew, and needed the proper motivation to be conquered. Unfortunately, he lacked any motivation at all, thus he doubted what Dexter had said.

Zodiac continued to stare at his cigarette as he responded. “I guess that’s true.” His gaze had met Dexter’s now. “But ya havfta want to fix it.” He said no more on the matter, believing that would accurately state his take on it.

With that said, Zodo took a lengthy drag on his smoke, shrugging as he did so. There wasn’t much else he could say, therefore he remained silent. Dexter was quiet for awhile as well, giving time for Zodiac’s mind to wander. He hadn’t noticed it earlier, but round Dexter’s neck rests the strap of a camera – the strap belonging to an rather expensive camera, by the looks of it. It definitely wasn't one of those crummy ones you’d use for family photos. Now, Zodo was never a big expert on camera brands and such, but this one seemed like one of those professional ones. His mind strayed for a moment, wondering what Dexter would be taking pictures of in a garden, then supposed it didn’t matter, and his mind moved on to something else.

Fortunately, after Zodiac had ran out of subjects to think about, Dexter decided to speak once more, asking if he were an Elite. Zodiac was amused by this and smiled slightly, although he took a moment to think out his reply. A rare occasion for Zodo, but he couldn’t help but wonder what Dexter meant by the question. Obviously Dexter knew something the others have not yet discovered, and this had puzzled Zodo. He flicked his ashes as he contemplated this momentarily, his eyes straying from Dexter as his mind wandered...

Ah,” he announced rather abruptly, the smile regaining its place on his expression as his gaze returned to Dexter. “So I was in that Serial Killer book.” His smile grew as he found the situation quite humorous. “As fer me bein’ an Elite...” Zodo shook his head, still grinning. “I don’t think that’ll be to Hannibal’s likin’.” Zodiac’s grin morphed to a thin smirk. He didn’t know what to make of all the questions, but answered them without suspicion, or much thought about them, really. He must admit that they weren’t what the average person would be asking him, but responded anyway. “Hannibal ‘s...” he paused a moment and looked away, taking the question into consideration before confirming his answer. “Well, let’s just say... he doesn’t like me too much.” He gave a brief laugh, making it difficult to believe if what he had said was the truth or an exaggeration.

The next question had him stumped again. He wasn’t familiar with this ‘innocents’ terminology, nor had he heard of ‘normies’ before. His brow furrowed, sufficiently presenting his apparent confusion. He supposed Dexter meant killing people to better himself. Mind you, Zodiac himself had no clear reason for what he has done, but he did know that if he were to murder someone, it wouldn’t be because he wanted to further himself along in life. Hell, if he wanted to ‘further himself along in life’, murder would be the last thing he’d do.

To answer Dexter’s question, Zodo shook his head. “Hah, no.” His gaze drifted from Dexter as he continued, an almost distant look glazing his eyes as he continued. “Y’know, Dexter, there’re reasons why I do these things...” He paused as he searched for the right words, then gestured toward his cigarette. “It’s like me an’ smokin’. D’I smoke to further myself along in life?” He smiled suddenly, though this one was different from his previous smiles. It held a sick, twisted irony in its appearance. “No. I smoke ‘cause I don’t wanna get ol’ and crusty, livin’ the same ol’ lives everyone else had. Y'see, I'll be long dead before then.” He laughed then, a laugh matching the twisted grin that he bore.

That there was probably the most he had ever told someone. Even though he had only just met Dexter not too long ago, with this information, he probably knew more about Zodiac than anyone else – not just in the school, but possibly even in the world. And Dexter only just scuffed the surface of Zodiac’s reasons. You better bet he had plenty more.

Dexter chuckled again, playing with the strap of his camera. The accent of the younger boy was mildly irritating, but Dexter could ignore it. Had to ignore it. Here was an Elite who didn't feel like being an Elite, much like Dexter himself, and he'd be damned if he had to suffer one more minute under Hannibal's "Kill all" regime.

Dexter felt he had mad an acquaintance. Another being with the same distaste for Hannibal as himself was obviously worthy of at least that title.

Dexter's mind was wandering - he still had yet to talk to the headmistress. He should do that soon. Very soon. Only Zodiac's comment about having to want to quit, and killing being like smoking, that he COULD quit, but didn't want to, Dexter grinned darkly, making the Dark Passenger chuckle with glee.

"It's good that you think you can stop killing, Zodo." Dexter said slowly, or was it the Dark Passenger? It was hard to tell. "I, unfortunately, need to kill. Wolves and the other monsters of the forest manage to subdue that desire well enough."

Dexter paused to laugh coldly, without emotion. "I'm a Sociopath with a conscience. Isn't that utterly pathetic? I can't help but kill... something. I hate killing the innocents - the people who have done no wrong in this world, like our 'normal' classmates. Unlike Hannibal Lector. He kills anyone he can." He mulled this over a bit in his head, then grinned wickedly. "A polite wolf in sheep's clothing, I suppose."

"Zodiac, What would you do if I said I wanted nothing more than to Kill Hannibal?" Dexter said slowly, frowning. He hoped that Zodiac would help him, but didn't know how to judge the strange Would-be-Elite. "I hate having to do what that moron says is right. He is no leader."

Zodiac found himself at a loss for words. This is a rare occurrence with Zodo, mind you, thus he didn’t exactly know how to handle the feeling. Dexter, however, seemed quite content on continuing on, and as a result, Zodiac’s uncertainty wasn’t made horridly obvious. And while Dexter spoke, Zodo took a few good intakes on his cigarette, considering his words. A sociopath with a conscience? Zodiac found that hint of irony comical and presented his amusement by the slight smile that crossed his face. This process was repeated when Dexter compared Hannibal to a polite wolf in sheep’s clothing. He supposed that was one way to put it.

Zodo was forced to think of a reply to Dexter’s question, however, and the smile soon faded as he became engulfed with thought. Frankly speaking, he wouldn’t really do anything if Dexter wanted to murder Hannibal. He wouldn’t stop Dexter from doing so, but wouldn’t exactly join him, either. Even though Zodo and Hannibal weren’t on particularly good terms at the moment (Zodo has the wound to prove it) doesn’t mean that Zodiac wanted to kill him. Zodo didn’t murder for means of revenge. He found it much more efficient to make their lives a living hell. But if Dexter wanted to kill him, hey, go ahead. Zodiac wouldn’t be arguing.

Zodo smirked suddenly, having found the words to respond with. “What would I do? Well, absolutely nothin’,” he replied frankly, his tone coming off as quite forthright. He knew Dexter was searching for assistance, but Zodiac wouldn’t feel right doing so. Even though he partially agreed with Dexter, helping him would go against all that Zodo had taught himself. It was strange – both Hannibal and Dexter were different people with completely differing morals, yet they were asking Zodiac to do the same thing – kill someone he had no intentions of killing. Zodiac smiled at the irony.

But I do agree with you,” He added after mulling it over for a moment. This statement was true as well. He did agree with Dexter’s argument, and he had already chosen (basically) not to follow Hannibal.

Zodiac paused abruptly, flicking his ashes as a different thought came to his mind. If Dexter wished to kill Hannibal, why did he follow him? It didn’t make much sense to Zodo and he rose a brow in question. “Didn’t you havfta go through that initiation-thing?

Zodiac couldn’t help but wonder if Dexter was forced to kill to be called an Elite. He’s thinking Dexter must have, but there were of course reasons for it, and Zodiac, being the curious person he is, questioned what those reasons were.
